Meet the judges from my past Be-a-Famous writer contests! Mrs. P has garnered the support of some of the best writers in the country to judge her annual writing contest, past judges include #1 best-selling author Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries); Jim Davis, creator of Garfield, the most popular cartoon strip in the world; Danny Kallis, creator of Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck, television’s top-rated shows for kids; Dave Barry, Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist and author of dozens of bestselling books; and Craig Ferguson, host of the CBS Late Late Show and author of Between the Bridge and the River; Bonny Becker, author of the beloved Bear and Mouse picture books for kids; and David L. Ulin book critic of the Los Angeles Times.

Julia Roberts - An Academy Award winner for Erin Brockovich, Julia Roberts has appeared in many of Hollywood's most successful films. She first came to the attention of audiences with her acclaimed performance in Mystic Pizza. Pretty Woman was the top-grossing movie of 1990 and was followed by a series of notable films including The Pelican Brief, Something to Talk About, My Best Friend's Wedding, Notting Hill and Ocean's Eleven.
Julia provided the voice of Charlotte in the animated film, Charlotte's Web, recently starred as the evil queen in Mirror, Mirror and has produced four American Girl movies. She has three children and reading to them is one of her great joys.

Melina Gerosa Bellows is Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Books, Kids, and Family
at National Geographic. She leads the creative strategy for National Geographic Books, Children’s Books, Kids and
Little Kids Magazines, as well as all of the Society’s kids and family product lines, including online and digital
platforms. An internationally published best-selling author, Melina’s most recent books are “Love You, Dad” and
“Mother’s Love” for National Geographic Books. Bellows is an award-winning freelance writer who has written for The
New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Family Life, Family Circle, More, Ladies Home
Journal, The Washingtonian, AARP The Magazine, Coastal Living, Entertainment Weekly and Elle. A graduate of
Boston College’s Honors Program, Bellows lives in Washington, D.C., with her young son and daughter.

Mary Frances Smith-Reynolds teaches second grade at Ivanhoe Elementary School in Silver Lake, CA. She
has worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 16 years, teaching grades 1, 2, 4 and 5 and also as a Literacy Coach. Mary
Frances’ first career was as in journalism, writing feature stories for such leading newspapers as the San Diego
Union. This year, she looks forward to engaging her second graders in a Writer’s Workshop as part of her school’s language arts
curriculum. Mary Frances’ mother is a retired first grade teacher, who told her daughter “teaching is one of the most creative things you can do.”

Mrs. P is the co-creator and star of MrsP.com, one of the most popular entertainment and educational sites for kids on the Internet. She has received recognition for her work from the American Library Association, the National Parenting Center and TeachersFirst.com, among others. Mrs. P lives in a big house with a Magic Library. She enjoys maintaining and driving her vintage, red Ferrari sports car, traveling around the world and, most of all, reading to kids. Occasionally, she dresses up as the actress Kathy Kinney, who starred in The Drew Carey Show for nine years, currently appears on The Secret Life of the American Teenager and who co-wrote the popular book, Queen of Your Own Life, which was featured on Oprah.com.
