Judge Bios for the contest!

Meet the judges for my 2011 3rd annual Be-a-Famous writer contest! Mrs. P has garnered the support of some of the best writers in the country to judge her annual writing contest, past judges include #1 best-selling author Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries); Jim Davis, creator of Garfield, the most popular cartoon strip in the world; Danny Kallis, creator of Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck, television’s top-rated shows for kids; Dave Barry, Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist and author of dozens of bestselling books; and Craig Ferguson, host of the CBS Late Late Show and author of Between the Bridge and the River. They will be letting you know the finalist for this year's contest on December 15th, 2011.

Bonny Becker is the best-selling author of the Bear and Mouse picture books, including “A Visitor for Bear” winner of the E.B. White Read Aloud Award, Amazon’s 2008 Picture Book of the Year, and an Oprah Children’s Book Club selection. Her latest Mouse and Bear book, “The Sniffles for Bear” will be released Fall 2011. Her most recent middle-grade novel, “The Magical Ms. Plum” is a Junior Literary Guild selection and won the 2010 Washington State Children’s Book Award. In all, she’s published 12 books for children. Bonny lives in Seattle with her husband and gets to bounce between Hawaii and New York to visit her two daughters.

David L. Ulin is book critic of the Los Angeles Times. He is the author, most recently, of "The Lost Art of Reading: Why Books Matter in a Distracted Time". His writing has appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, The New York Times Book Review, Bookforum, Black Clock, Columbia Journalism Review, and on National Public Radio's All Things Considered.

Renèe Watson is the author of the children’s picture book, "A Place Where Hurricanes Happen"(Random House, June 2010), which was featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. Her middle grade novel, "What Momma Left Me" debuted as the New Voice for 2010 in middle grade fiction by The Independent Children's Booksellers Association. Renèe one woman show, Roses are Red, Women are Blue, debuted at New York City's Lincoln Center at a showcase for emerging artists. Her articles and poetry have been published in Rethinking Schools, Theatre of the Mind and With Hearts Ablaze. When Renèe is not writing and performing, she is teaching. Renèe has worked in public schools and community organizations as an artist in residence for several years, teaching poetry, fiction, and theater in Oregon, Louisiana, and New York City. Mrs. P is the co-creator and star of MrsP.com, one of the most popular entertainment and educational sites for kids on the Internet. She has received recognition for her work from the American Library Association, the National Parenting Center and TeachersFirst.com, among others. Mrs. P lives in a big house with a Magic Library. She enjoys maintaining and driving her vintage, red Ferrari sports car, traveling around the world and, most of all, reading to kids. Occasionally, she dresses up as the actress Kathy Kinney, who starred in The Drew Carey Show for nine years, currently appears on The Secret Life of the American Teenager and who co-wrote the popular book, Queen of Your Own Life, which was recently featured on Oprah.com.
